As you are aware, Peggy and I have been named the Regional Coordinators for the California Region of Maryknoll Affiliates Chapters. We are excited to again be closely involved in the evolution and growth of the Affiliates movement.
We want to also acknowledge the tremendous effort and hard work that Marta and Charlie Reilly have done as the initial Regional Coordinators under this continuing organizational experiment. They are a tough act to follow.
Our mission , as we understand it, is aligned with the following statement from Ann Carr:
"Some of the 'defining adjectives' that we have used to describe ourselves include a Board that is 'consultative' and Regional Coordinators that ensure that activities are 'participative'. Fred has very nicely articulated that the Regional Coordinators have more of a grassroots, pastoral role while the Board members serve in more of a policy setting/ visioning and directing role."
In our efforts to serve your Chapters, we will need your input and feedback. If you have any news, announcements or want to share anything about your Chapter, please let me know so that we can share it. We also plan to visit you personally at some time and you are more than welcome to visit us in Santa Ana if you are ever nearby. We also welcome e-mails with meeting notes, etc. and telephone calls.
"Hope is an ability to work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed. Hope is definitely not the same as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense regardless of how it turns out." Vaclav Havel
