The San Diego Chapter met for prayer and discussion followed by a Christmas lunch celebration in the home of Marta and Charlie Reilly, beautifully decorated for Christmas. The prayer, reflection and discussion on the Advent theme of AWAKENING AGAIN AND AGAIN was led by Michele Dunne. We read from Isaiah 63:1-6, 10, Mark 13:33-37, "Blessed Advent 2011" by Ann Hayden, MM and "Advent is Here!" by Sr. Rebecca Macugay, MM. Reflections were shared on the theology of waiting, taking time to reflect on possibilities and not focus on the seasonal rush of activity. Also, we gave thanks for these times when we gather as a community to pray and reflect. For some, this was a real experience of what it means to be a Maryknoll Affiliate and demonstrates the importance of the Spirituality Pillar that supports our movement. We finished by singing a closing song: MAKE WAY. MAKE WAY. FOR HERE COMES AN IMAGE OF GOD. MAKE WAY, MAKE WAY. FOR YOU ARE THE IMAGE OF GOD. MAKE WAY, MAKE WAY FOR WE ARE THE IMAGE OF GOD.
Before enjoying our meal, we processed to the manger scene to pray an Advent Litany. Marta prepared a wonderful tamale casserole, salad, chips and guacamole, Irish cheese and crakers and other tidbits, finishing with a Maryknoll sour cream pie. Others contributed a variety of delicious desserts.
COME LORD JESUS, PRINCE OF PEACE
