Sister Ann Hayden, who entered Maryknoll Sisters in 1968 from Louisville, KY, was elected member of the Leadership Team in November 2008. She studied Medical Technology at Catherine Spaulding in Louisville, followed by a B.S. in Nursing at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. She was assigned in Korea from 1972 – ’81. After giving service as a clinic nurse at the Maryknoll Center, Sister Ann volunteered for work in a refugee camp with “Save the Children” Organization in the Sudan for 6 months. In 1986 after studying Spanish, she was assigned to Nicaragua where she was involved in the Public Health Program for 10 years. In 1997 she moved to Jinotepe, Nicaragua where she was engaged in an Adult Education as part of a roving popular education team on different themes in health, women’s issues and community organizing until 2001. From 2001 – ’08, Sister Ann became Director of Nursing Service in the Maryknoll Residential Care facility at Maryknoll. She was part of a team that implemented the Eden Alternative concept, a new more home-like alternative to the strict medical model of care for our elderly.
