The conveener of the group had been in Mexico in 2010 on an immersion experience and learned that NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that was passed between U.S., Mexico and Canada in 1994 has a devastating effect on Mexico. Over a million Mexican farmers have lost their livelihood because US agricultural companies began to receive subsidies from the US governmen after NAFTA was passed. The US ships corn to Mexico and sells it a lower price. The Mexican farmer cannot beat the price and cannot make profit for their own corn. Many do not have a choice other than to immigrate to the US illegally to survive.

Unfortunately three more FreeTrade Agreement are pending in the US Congress ( Korea, Columbia and Panama). They are almost identical to NAFTA.
