I am writing to share with you a wonderful resource: Homily reflections prepared by members of the Maryknoll community in ministries around the world. They are wonderful reflections by missioners describing how the Sunday and Holy Day scripture comes alive in their mission settings.

In the month of October, peace, security and the challenge of climate change are all underlying themes:

October 4 Celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi with Maruja and Ted Gutmann-Gonzalez, MLM in the rural community of VilchesChile. Ted and Maruja explore the interconnectedness of all that is created and how the challenges of climate change and increased demand on precious resources influences how we live together on a finite planet.

October 11 Father Daniel McLaughlin, MM takes us to the base community of St. Rita de Cassia where people overcome difficult odds to faithfully study scripture and to live out Jesus instruction to engage in social action.

October 18 Marie Dennis visits a peace village in southern Sudan that welcomes people of all ethnicities and religions to live, to learn about and experience food self-sufficiency, to receive an education, and to co-exist peacefully.

October 25 Father William Donnelly asks U.S. citizens to open their eyes to what real peace and sustainable security means in light of his experiences living and working with Guatemalans who endured at 36 year old war that was in part funded by the United States Government.
