Experimental Model Evaluation Committee

The Maryknoll Affiliates began an experimental model in 2008, moving to a regional structure with Regional Coordinators. In 2011, the Maryknoll Affiliate Board named the Experimental Model Evaluation Committee to access this model, primarily using the process of Appreciative Inquiry. Please be sure to follow the progress of that committee here and to leave your own comments and suggestions.

Regional Model Affirmed at Joint Meeting April 2012

E-mail Print PDF

At this weekend's joint meeting, the Affiliate Board, in consensus with the Regional Coordinators, agreed to accept the recommendations of the EMEC and affirm the Affiliate Regional Model! As you know, the Affiliates have been engaged in an experimental period dedicated to developing more regionally-based Affiliate connections and strengthening our experience as small mission communities. The Experimental Model Evaluation Committee (EMEC) gathered broad input on the experience of the model, seeking feedback from the Regional Coordinators themselves, Affiliates participating at last summer's MAC 2011 Conference and Affiliates in Chapters through a reflective questioning, heart sharing process. The model of evaluation utilized was that of Appreciative Inquiry. Some learning highlights of the evaluation report include:

  • Development of a regional identity has been very varied. While the regional 'identity' is manifesting itself in a widely variable, uneven and haltering way, it is emerging.
  • There is a creative tension in the Affiliates between local/ Chapter identity and interest in the international life of the movement that influences our communication.
  • Several emerging themes or "dreams" surfaced including community, Maryknoll connection, spirituality, communication, formation of chapters, youth, increasing diversity, global vision and action.

EMEC (Experimental Model Evaluation Committee) Update and Call for Chapter Participation

E-mail Print PDF

Ann Carr and Joe Santos, co-chairs, Marie Wren, Catherine Endicott, Ann Hayden MM and Beth Begley need your participation and input.

The goal of our committee is to facilitate and to coordinate the participation of Affiliates in evaluation of the experimental regional model which has been in effect for the past two years. Is it working? How can we improve? Should we design a different model?

We encourage you to give high priority to scheduling two meetings this Fall to engage in this evaluation process using the perspective of Appreciative Inquiry. Resources follow.

Beginning the evaluation of the experimental model

Just a brief alert to invite you to check out the power point on Appreciative Inquiry (A.I.) and to please place our evaluation process on your chapter meeting agenda in October or November.

We have now had a year and a half of experience with our ‘Experimental Model’—Regional Coordinators, a smaller Board, a formation process, one executive coordinator, etc.  The Board has convened an ’Experimental Model Evaluation Committee’ consisting of, Marie Wren, Bay Area, Joe Santos, Western Regional Coordinator/San Diego Chapter, Sr. Ann Hayden, Sisters’ CLT, Catherine Endicott, Seattle Chapter, Ann Carr, Board chair/ Phila Chapter, Betty Begley, Board member/NJ chapter to develop our evaluation process and collate input.

We will be using ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ as our methodology.  Ann Carr has developed a PowerPoint available on our Affiliate web site.

Those at the Affiliate Conference will hear more about ‘A.I.’

The committee asks that each Affiliate Chapter keep space on their meeting agenda in October or November.  We’ll be in touch with further information and count on your engagement and your input.

Much more to come…

Appreciative Inquiry: Promoting Engagement & Growth in our Affiliate Movement

E-mail Print PDF

An organization is not a collection of problems to be solved but a mystery to be celebrated. Appreciative Inquiry is a process of…affirmative questioning that collects and celebrates the good news stories of a community; these stories serve to enhance cultural identity, spirit and vision.

Lessons from the Field: Applying Appreciative Inquiry

At the November Affiliate Board meeting, several of us reflected upon the present state of the Affiliate movement. We are now more than half way through a three-year experimental period and our twentieth anniversary is fast approaching. What have these twenty years meant for us? Is a regional model beginning to take shape? Does a regional model provide a good fit for us and help to cultivate what we hope will be a vibrant future?
