Bob and Maureen Doyle recently received an email from Sister Janet Srebalus MM, former Executive Co-coordinator of the Maryknoll Affiliates. Here are some excerpts from her email. Be sure to click on "Read more…" to see some pictures.
After about six months of moving about from various places in Kenya and Tanzania, Sr. Gladys Gonzalez and myself finally settled in Morogoro, a medium size town about 3 hours West of Dar es Salaam on a tarmac road. Our house is on a dirt road, but it is quite nice and able to accommodate three to four sisters. The town is right at the feet of the Uluguru mountains and an excellent agricultural area. In fact we have a wonderful vegetable garden ourselves. I do some of the gardening myself, but we have a helper, Deo, who does most of the heavy work. It is such a joy to pick fresh vegetables everyday right before cooking. We grow, spinach, Chinese, African mchicha, another kind of spinach, tomatoes, onions, carrots, eggplant, okra and sweet potatoes.
Ministry wise, most of the work I am doing is Holistic Education, seminars, workshops, groups focusing on discovering, integrating, and transforming ourselves, our communities and the world – mind, body and spirit to live healthier, happier and “wholer lives”.. I work with women and youth groups, sisters congregations and prisoners, here in Morogoro and also in other parts of Tanzania, like Dar es Salaam, Iringa, Mwanza and Musoma.
I welcome visitors… hopefully I’ll be connecting with Seattle Affiliates Roger and Kitty Schiltz who are returning to Tanzania for awhile at least.
It will be good to see them and the Otts in Mwanza when I visit the Affiliate group there in October.
With Joy and Peace,
Janet
