Africa and Education
As with the September/October edition of Maryknoll magazine, the main themes of this issue of Not So Far Afield are Africa and education. The cover of Maryknoll has the phrase “Blessings in Tanzania.” As you will read in this issue, we as Maryknoll Affiliates are doubly blessed, first, by the presence of a Maryknoll Affiliate Chapter in Tanzania (Receiving so as to Serve on page 4), and also through the opportunities to visit and work in places like Tanzania and Liberia (Kenya Gifts: In the Eyes of the Beholders, page 1 and Social Networking in Real Life in Africa on page 3).
These articles, themselves, have stories of education, as well as the mission education efforts of the Indiana Tri-state Chapter (Annual Education Events in Southern Indiana on page 6). We hope these and all the articles in this issue are educational for you.
Dave Schaffner’s Reflection on the Maryknoll Family (page 8) remind us that discussions begun at the 2011 Maryknoll Affiliate Conference do not end there, but should continue in our Chapters and online to advance with ideas and suggestions that came out of the Open Space sessions.
Missed Picture
In the July/August edition of Not So Far Afield, we included a poem by Sister Noel Devine MM read to the Maryknoll Affiliates who visited the Eden Community. What I missed including were pictures taken by Ron Guidry (Westchester). You can view those pictures now posted on our website.
