This is my 4th week in Dhaka. I finally got my visa on Jan. 28th at 5pm, just 3 hours before my departure time at 8pm on the same day. I am handling history, geography, classical reading, and reading comprehension for 8th grade and an elective course on biblical knowledge for 9th grade. I substitute classes with teachers who are absent. I will also be helping the sisters in training the teachers.
Aside from my ministry in BACHA (Bangladesh Alternative Course on Human Advancement) English Medium School, I also teach the Salesian sisters (English religious songs, English language and grammar, and train sisters teaching in the pre-school) who lives next door. I might also be teaching at the seminary.
Sr. Joan, the principal is physically weak. I guess she’s almost 90. She was confined at the hospital for a week, few days after I came. She’s home now but stays at the convent because she’s too weak to work. A Salesian sister who is a nurse monitors her bp everyday. Please include her, Sr. Miriam and myself in your prayer. Fr. Bob comes to Dhaka every Sat and Sun to say mass for us. I met Fr. Bill once when he came to visit. The four Maryknolls here are just extraordinary! Their commitment and dedication to their ministry is awe-inspiring. They offered so much hope to the Bengalis they are ministering.
