The Phoenix Chapter began the year in January with a Retreat Day in which we discussed the "Four Pillars" and the "Stages of Prophetic Mystical Communities" that Fr. Jack Sullivan, M.M. gave to us last year. We had a convenant signing ceremony for two new members and concluded with the Eucharist with Fr. Scott Harris, M.M. Our monthly meetings are varied, we generally reflect on topics in the "Not So Far Afield" Newsletter, Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns Newsletter, and Maryknoll Magazine. Karen Delio from Boston Affiliates shared with us her young adult experience of being an affiliate as well as her studies at Thunderbird School of Global Management. We spent two meetings on Hydrofracking, viewing the documentary "Gasland" and discussing appropriate responses to it. Bishop Remi De Roo, retired Bishop of Victoria, Canada visited us and spoke on keeping the vision of Vatican II alive in our various ministries. Bishop De Roo was the youngest Canadian bishop to attend the Second Vatican Council. Members shared their experiences in attending the Maryknoll Affiliate Conference, "Proclaim Jubilee: Companions on the Journey." We reviewed the "Appreciative Inquiry Process: Promoting Engagement & Growth in our Affiliate Movement. We were not able to cover much at our monthly meetings and decided to spend an extended time on it at our January 2012 Retreat Day.

Our Chapter usually meets monthly for dinner and fellowship.  In October we were short several affiliates due to illness, so we dressed for the upcoming holiday and sent them our love via e-mail

Educating Youth in the Fight Against Injustice and Violence

As several of the affiliates in our group are also involved in youth ministry within our local diocese, we were thrilled to see the SOA highlighted in the teen group literature to be used for one of our fall weekend sessions.   We were able to take this opportunity to present the film Convictions: Prisoners of Conscience, depicting the peaceful demonstrations that have taken place at Fort Benning over the last 20 years  to close the School of the Americas.

Our Chapter had the opportunity to spend evenings with a Maryknoll Father and Sister, each sharing about their respective missions overseas.
