Book Presentation Spreads Mother Mary Joseph's Spirit
On The Threshold of The Future: The Life and Spirituality of Mother Mary Joseph Rogers, Founder of the Maryknoll Sisters." Our Chapter decided to read the book as a group to deepen our connection to Maryknoll and its beginnings. Many of our members had met Sr. Claudette in the past, and were taken by her enthusiasm and presence. Sr. Ellen McDonald accompanied Sr. Claudette for the weekend. Sr. Ellen is the co-founder of the Maryknoll Affiliates along with Fr. Jim Madden. On November 17.18, and 19, the Albany Chapter had the honor of hosting a presentation/ book signing by Sr. Claudette LaVerdiere for her book "
Sr. Claudette 's presentation gave those in attendance a glimpse of Mother Mary Joseph's spirit; she accepted everyone as individuals while fostering a true sense of community. Sr. Claudette explained that her portrayal of Mother Mary Joseph was greatly enhanced by reading actual documents written by Mother Mary Joseph when she was head of the Maryknoll order. She was unafraid to take risks and succeeded in blazing the way for women religious in mission.
Our Albany group was delighted to spend time with both Sr. Claudette and Sr. Ellen. They joined us for our monthly meeting to further discuss the book and their experiences with Maryknoll. Sr. Claudette was available for book signing during the hours of our Fair Trade Craft Sale being held that weekend. A small portion of the proceeds from the book will be used to support the work of two other Maryknoll Sisters in Lemoa, Guatemala who have an ongoing relationship with our Chapter. We were all enriched by the time we spend socializing with the Sisters; the essence of Maryknoll is apparent in their love of life. We are fortunate to have developed these relationships with the Maryknoll Sisters, their sense of mission and joy inspire us as we strive to live out the four pillars of the Maryknoll Affiliates. We salute them as they celebrate their centennial.
