“Faces of Immigration” Forum

In an effort to promote discussion and address myths and stereotypes that surround the hot-button issues of immigration, the Maryknoll Speakers Series presented Faces of Immigration. The forum was sponsored by the Maryknoll Affiliate Chapter of Westchester. The presentations were be followed by a question and answer, and audience discussion period. The panel of experts included moderator Marie Dennis, director of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns and co-president of Pax Christi International, who presented Loving our Neighbor in a Shrinking World, a discussion of migration/immigration and U.S. foreign policy.  

Featured speaker, Eva Richter, spoke on The Migration Phenomenon: Pushes, Pulls and Paradigms.  Ms. Richter is an NGO delegate to the United Nations, representing the International Federation of Business and Professional Women.  She serves as executive member of the UN’s NGO Committees on Migration, the Status of Women, and Human Rights. 
Featured speaker, Sr. Darlene Jacobs, M.M. a missioner/educator with more than 30 years experience in Tanzania, East Africa, discussed Looking at Immigration with Eyes of Faith and Justice.  Sr. Darlene also was a panelist in the 2006 Human Rights lecture series at the UN.
