Father Price/Wilmington
Welcome to the Father Price Chapter Webpage
C.A.R.E. (Coastal AIDS Resource Effort) in Wilmington, North Carolina, is the apostolate of the Fr. Price Chapter of Maryknoll Affiliates. Our work is centered on advocacy for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
December 1 is a perennial World AIDS Day where we lift up persons who have left the world. Each year we host this spiritually memorable event for clients and loved ones in the area. Some of our monthly activities include works of mercy such as delivering our “Companions Program” on Wednesdays where we deliver donated foods from local food banks, through the Food Pantry Coordinator from Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation of this type also provides opportunities to share prayer and emotional support for people who are shut in, have no transportation, and have very few visitors during the week.
This is our Apostolate at C.A.R.E. Personal visitation allows us to minister in all kinds of ways to people, and to advocate for them within various crises situations they often face, with Social Services, food, funeral arrangements, income problems, health care needs, and spiritual care. Through collaborative efforts, the Affiliates, through C.A.R.E., partner with many churches, and in addition to constant financial support from St. Mary's Catholic Church, is especially helped locally by the United Methodist Church, and gives its thanks.

The Maryknoll presence was amply felt at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh, NC, where Bishop Michael Burbidge held the official "Opening for Cause..." during Vespers on March 9, 2012. Please see www.dioceseofrraleigh.org for more information. (On the Home page that lists "Recent News", scroll down and look for a photo box link on the left side.)
Also in attendance were Gaye Hieb, Rosita Carson, Dallas Midgette, and Debby Lynch, founding members of the Father Price Chapter, Wilmington, NC. Debby Lynch (in the short, curly hair) is pictured with Bishop Burbidge in the pictures. Other pictures taken of the Wilmington Affiliates have not been shared yet with the Chapter.

We sent the following email of thanks to Ann Hayden and to Sr. Mary Ellen, regarding the recent visit by Sr. Mary Ellen to us at the Father Price Chapter of Maryknoll Affiliates, in Wilmington, NC.
Dear Sr. Ann,
We, the Maryknoll Affiliates of the Father Price Chapter in Wilmington, NC would like to thank you for sending us Sr. Mary Ellen. She truly blessed us with her gentle, animated presence that are so representative of the Maryknoll charism. She shared with us the memorial tree-planting along 5th Avenue in downtown historic Wilmington near St. Mary Catholic Church, School, & Shrine, which concluded with a reception attended by our Mayor, Bill Saffo. The reception was held at The Bellamy Mansion, a Civil War era house not far from St. Mary's.
Sr. Mary Ellen graciously shared her Bolivian adventures of mission with both the Spanish-speaking affiliates and the English group, with an additional presentation to the Hispanic/Latino youth.
We all enjoyed talking with Sister and listening to her stories of the people and culture of Bolivia. I especially appreciated her visitation to our HIV medical home bound clients, and her very kind companioning of Marisol, one of the Spanish-speaking members.
As the album of photos shows, we also took Sister on a tour of our historic district which included the Fr. Price marker and the former St. Thomas Church where "Fred" was baptized, confirmed, and ordained.
Thanks so much, again, for gifting us with such a special woman!
Blessings to All,
Gaye Hieb, Fr. Price Affiliate Chapter
