Special Announcement – We have a new Affiliate Board Chair Elect
After leading the Affiliate Movement through a time of significant change as we moved to a 501c3 nonprofit status, the present Board Chair, Ginny McEvoy, will be stepping down in the spring.
The entire Board is very happy to announce that our new Chair will be Rosa Beatriz Castañeda de Larios. Rosa Beatriz is from Guatemala and with her nomination will be the first international Board Chair.
In welcoming Rosa Beatriz, we are welcoming an incredibly capable, dedicated and expansive (spirit-filled) woman to the position. By her Latin American heritage, she will automatically give needed emphasis to the international identity of the Affiliate Movement.
Rosa Beatriz speaks English very well and is not too bad in Spanish either 😊. She speaks directly without pretense, has a sense of humor and can laugh at (see the humor) when many, including herself, get lost in the particulars of a dilemma.
For a stretch of time, Rosa Beatriz was the head administrator of the Maryknoll Sisters’ secondary school, Monte Maria in Guatemala. That school has formed leaders throughout the country who transcend and speak out strongly to the need for a just and equitable society. In identifying her style of leadership, Rosa Beatriz emphasized that she always chose to lead in close collaboration with a team.
In the selection process, Rosa Beatriz asked Board members to honestly identify both the pros and cons of what they saw in her. Essentially the only con was that, given the present atmosphere in the U.S., we had some fear for her safety whenever she’d travel her for an in-person meeting.
Please join the Affiliate Board in thank Ginny for all she’s done over the years for the Movement, and welcome Rosa Beatriz as our new Chair elect.
